Welcome Fall!

Happy fall! It’s always a little deceiving, isn’t it? We go from August right into September, and while the weather may still feel like summer, the mood definitely changes. Vacations wind down, kids head back to school, everyone gets back to work, and suddenly life gets a little more serious.

As we head into fall, we’ve put together an issue that celebrates some of the best of South Jersey — along with a little travel inspiration beyond our backyard.

One of those South Jersey treasures is Storybook Land. Generations of us grew up with it, and there’s something reassuring about seeing it right there on the Black Horse Pike after all these years. It’s a wonderful place to introduce children to the same storybook characters and childhood fantasies many of us remember.

In Travel, we head north and fall in love with Lake George and the surrounding region. From hiking and sightseeing to wine tasting, there’s plenty to do, and fall may be one of the best times to experience this beautiful part of the Northeast.

One story particularly close to my heart is “Turning Parkinson’s Into Purpose”, featuring my good friend Dan Poley and his family. Written by another friend, Sandy White, it tells how one family is turning a difficult challenge into an opportunity to raise awareness and funds in the fight against Parkinson’s disease.

In Eats, we meet “South Jersey’s Caviar Queen”, Kristen McGee. Her business, Caviar Carrier, brings caviar directly to your door — or, even better, creates a caviar tasting experience for you and your guests. It’s approachable luxury with a distinctly South Jersey touch.

Our Home feature, “High-Rise, High Expectations”, takes a look at Jersey Shore condominium renovations and why they can be very different from renovating a traditional home. From logistics and building requirements to coordinating the work itself, there’s much more involved than you might expect.

And, of course, our regular contributors are back. Wine Director Michael Bray reminds us that the change of seasons is also a good reason to change up our wine selections — and to mark our calendars for The Right Notes on October 8.

In Health Watch, Robin Stoloff looks at advances surrounding Alzheimer’s disease and the continuing effort to better understand and treat this devastating illness.

In Art, Michael Cagno introduces us to “NJ Monuments to Migration” and Labor, an ambitious project connecting immigration, labor, history and public art throughout New Jersey.

And what would an issue of Lifestyle be without photos of the people enjoying South Jersey’s in our Social Pages. Weve also updated selection of our recommended restaurants, and Money Watch from our friends at CRA Financial Advisors, with a look at savings strategies and their potential tax benefits.

Fall always seems to bring us back to a routine. But maybe that’s not such a bad thing. There’s still plenty to discover, plenty to enjoy and, as always, plenty happening right here in South Jersey.

Enjoy the issue — and enjoy the fall.
