We have all heard the expression, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” If we stick to that concept, then embarking on a culinary journey must begin with a single bite. From Hammonton to Galloway, new eating establishments await your arrival. In the mood for tacos? How about a plate of pasta? Maybe a falafel on pita bread??
Let’s go and check out some local places that are new or relatively new. Make sure you bring your appetite and wallet, but passports are definitely not required.

Scarpelli, Hammonton, NJ. From left: Straight Outta Brooklyn, Dining Room, Antipasto
Located in the heart of Hammonton, Scarpelli touts old-time tradition fused with a modern twist. Inspired by matriarch, Theresa Scarpelli, the family continues to serve the way she would expect and insist. Their motto — “Scarpelli isn’t just a place — it’s a feeling” reminds the current generation of Scarpellis where they come from, and “the love that continues to inspire everything we create.”
What makes Scarpelli stand out is how they take Theresa’s timeless recipes and reimagine them thanks to her grandson, Steven Rodio. Each dish honors classic Italian cooking with a dash or two of modern cuisine.

Chef Laly Acosta displays her Peruvian and Inca heritage not only in her passion for cooking, but also in the décor and feel of the restaurant logo, as well — soothing reds and grand Inca golds.
