Modern Treatments

Bring effortless style and smart function together to transform every window in your home.

In home design, few elements work as hard—both aesthetically and functionally—as window treatments. They filter light, provide security and privacy, shape mood, and effortlessly tie a space together. Whether you’re refreshing one room or reimagining your whole home, today’s shades, drapes, and blinds are as much about style as they are about comfort. With so many options available, dressing your windows can feel overwhelming—New Jersey Lifestyle Magazine is here to help.

When it comes to window treatments, few understand the craft as well as Ron Rosso of South Jersey Blinds and Beyond. “It has always been a family affair,” says Ron Rosso, owner of South Jersey Blinds and Beyond. “My dad started in the window-treatment business in 1963. In the ’70s, I would occasionally go out with him to install shades and drapes, which were the big items at the time.” By the 1980s, Ron’s father had moved into manufacturing, and Ron spent school breaks working in the shop.

“I never really expected to enter the business myself,” he says. That changed in 1989. “I realized my dad had built something special,” Ron explains. “He had actually sold his business in ’87 and thought he was finished with the industry. But when I decided to pursue it full-time, I needed someone I trusted to manufacture my products—and no one did it better than him.” Today, 36 years later, Ron still relies on his now-86-year-old father for select custom pieces, with support from Ron’s sister, niece, wife, and a longtime family friend in the fabrication room. “I've nicknamed them the Beautiful-Blind-Chicks; they are skilled and beautiful,” Ron says. As the company has grown, so has the family involvement. “All four of my children now work full-time in the window-treatment business,” Ron says. “It truly has been, and continues to be, a family affair.”

With decades of experience and generations of expertise, South Jersey Blinds and Beyond understands the vast array of options and trends in window treatments. According to Ron Rosso, one of the biggest shifts in window-treatment style is the rise of interior shutters. “Indoor shutters have become very popular these days,” he explains. “Homeowners like the clean lines, the durability, and the way shutters can blend into both modern and traditional interiors.” While simpler, streamlined looks are dominating, Rosso notes that classic fabric treatments still have a place. “Drapes and valances have definitely lost a great deal of their popularity—I probably do about a third of what I did in the ’90s,” he says, “But they still offer the greatest amount of elegance. When someone wants a room to feel truly finished or a bit more sophisticated, custom drapery can achieve that in a way few other treatments can.”

Beyond shutters and drapes, shades are growing in popularity as homeowners embrace a blend of style and smart functionality. Shades offer greater flexibility in the amount of light and privacy they provide. “With a wide range of styles, colors, and fabrics available, window shades can complement any interior decor scheme. Whether you prefer minimalist aesthetics, bold patterns, or eco-friendly materials, there's a shade option to suit your taste and enhance the overall look of your home,” Rosso says. Natural materials like woven woods and textured fabrics bring warmth and an organic feel to modern spaces. And as technology evolves, smart shades are quickly becoming a favorite. “Motorized options are growing in popularity,” Rosso says. “People love being able to control light, privacy, and energy efficiency with the touch of a button.” Together, these trends reflect a growing desire for window treatments that are both beautiful and highly functional, tailored to the way people live today.

You can think of window treatments as eyeglasses—something that can have both form and function. Like eyeglasses, window treatments set the tone for your style. If you are looking to refresh or update a space, window treatments are a great way to illicit a big impact with minimal work—like throwing on a great pair of glasses. n
